The land

Pond Eddy, NY

For centuries, the Lenni Lenape, an indigenous Native American tribe, inhabited the Upper Delaware region, including the area that would later become Sullivan County.

During the early 1800s, settlements emerged on either side of the river, both bearing the name Pond Eddy—one situated on the New York side, and the other on the Pennsylvania side.

Pond Eddy derived its name from the backward swirl of the Delaware River, forming a pond-like eddy at this location.

The river

Delaware River

The Delaware River is one of the major rivers in the United States, flowing through four states: New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware.

The Delaware River runs 330 miles long and originates from two branches in the Catskill Mountains of New York, with the Western Branch beginning near Mount Jefferson and the Eastern Branch near Roxbury at Grand Gorge. These branches converge in Hancock, New York, before flowing as a single river to the Delaware Bay.

The Delaware River, steeped in history, witnessed the rise and decline of the Delaware and Hudson Canal (D&H Canal), a 19th-century transportation marvel spanning 108 miles from Pennsylvania to New York, predominantly serving the transport of anthracite coal, until its eventual obsolescence due to the ascendance of railroads.

The cabin

Renovated 1948 Cape Cod Style Home

Thanks to cabin aficionados, Kevin and Chris, this home was entirely rebuilt and completed in autumn 2022 from the ground floor upwards and later transformed into a cabin with European-styled farmhouse interiors. We're delighted to highlight that our cabin was purchased from them brand new, needing only minimal adjustments to its exterior and interior. It was meticulously constructed with a dual emphasis on quality craftsmanship and energy efficiency, guaranteeing its endurance for generations to come—an aspect we deeply value and appreciate.

John Paul & Jaine, your dedicated hosts and proud owners, eagerly await the opportunity to welcome you to our cabin and ensure your stay is memorable.
